About Big Fish Maldives

7th year of operations

We specialise in the processing and  distribution of responsibly caught Maldivian tuna, catering to principal markets in the EU, USA, and Southeast Asia.

Since launching in 2017, we have become the largest exporter of yellowfin tuna from the Maldives and the top global supplier of fresh yellowfin tuna to the European Union.

Himmafushi Complex

Our dual-factory complex on Himmafushi Island is optimally located 15 minutes from Velana International Airport and Malé Seaport.

Our facilities are designed for the advanced processing and packaging of skipjack and yellowfin tuna into various formats, such as fresh, ultra-low temperature super frozen, CO and filtered smoke treated, and standard frozen, serving food service and retail sectors.

Recently added capacity

Currently, our total receiving capacity stands at 60 tonnes per shift, with a production capacity of 40 tonnes per shift. We have the capability for blast freezing 45 metric tonnes of tuna daily, achieving temperatures ranging from -25°C, -40°C, to -60°C.

Additionally, we produce 130 tonnes of flake ice and 280 tonnes of desalinated water daily to support the fishers who supply us. Our diverse team consists of 180 full-time employees from 7 different nationalities.

Bigger targets

We collaborate closely with distributors and retailers of sashimi-grade fresh and frozen tuna products across the Globe. With the launch of our new factory in February 2024, we are poised for significant growth.

This year, we're targeting the processing and export of over 8,000 tonnes of tuna, aiming for an export value surpassing $40 million. This expansion not only underscores our growth but also enables us to contribute significantly to Maldivian fishers, with expected payments exceeding MVR 370 million in 2024.
